    elizabitchtaylor:

she wears short skirts, I wear t-shirts

she’s cheer captain and I respect her right to wear whatever she wants and participate in traditionally ‘feminine’ activities because I understand that life is not about condemning another woman’s personal choices just because she doesn’t ‘deserve’ the boy i have a crush on

I don’t normally comment on these things, just reblog but this one I am. Not for a tumblr argument but what not, but to clarify something about this song and why I disagree with the above sentiment.

I do not at all feel like she is condemning the other girl’s personal choices as stated above. Yes it’s a witty comment, funny retort to the song, however I don’t feel it was the intention.

I see the song very plainly, it’s a story about being good friends with a guy who is dating this girl that is “better” than you, by whatever ridiculous standards are existing at the time. (Seriously, who comes up with those anyway?)

The singer sets up the story by explaining that normal every day happenstance is to watch her guy friend  have troubles with his girlfriend, which sucks. She admits her feelings here, albeit not plainly. “I’m listening to the kind of music she doesn’t like/ but she’ll never know your story like I do” Essentially, she is saying, we (She and I) are different, however I’m your friend and I know the -real- you. (yes a little cocky of the singer, but hey, as the “gal pal” to a guy friend haven’t we been there?)

It leads us into the bridge which is referenced in the original post:

    But she wears short skirts
    I wear t-shirts
    She’s cheer captain
    And I’m on the bleachers
Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find
That what you’re looking for has been here the whole time.

She is not saying. “Oh my gosh, I like this guy and I’m going to pick on his girlfriend” She is comparing herself to this other girl. What she is saying is: She’s pretty, she’s popular and here I am Geeky McNerdness, Its no wonder you like her better..but maybe some day, looks wont matter.

Okay, I’ll slow my roll here. Because I can nitpick this song to death. The fact of the matter is, however…

I -am- that girl in T-shirts, Jeans, and sneakers, on color guard, in Orchestra, Theatre, Debate and Chess clubs, and taking AP classes/Latin. Arriving early in the morning to play Magic: The Gathering, and using my free time during the week to role play.
AND my junior year, one of my close guy friends started dating the freaking varsity cheer captain. And she was terrible to him, he didn’t look good enough so she made him change his style, he had to stop hanging out with certain people because they weren’t “in line” for what she wanted, she was a controlling you-know-what. And I spent my days glancing at him from across the common area as he walked in with her (he’d sneak a wave and a smile for me) Wishing that he’d hit his head on something hard enough to wake up and see ME, the person who’s been there through thick and thin. Who loves chatting with him, who loves doing the things he does, that is drama free.

As high school relationships generally go, they broke up mid way through the year over something completely stupid and I got my friend back… but that’s not the point. The point was, well I’ve been that girl comparing myself to the more socially accepted “pretty” girl.

    …yeah. hm.

                    Joker Cosplayers I respect/admire:

                    1:

Scott McClure (The Joker Blogs) - This guy is amazing. He took the Ledger interpretation of the Clown Prince, and made a lovely web-series imagining what would happen with him after the events of The Dark Knight. He’s great at the impersonation, and Series 2 has just started. Go check him out, if you like The Joker you will not regret it.

                    2 & 3:

Sparrow626 on Tumblr - This guy and his gal (Enasnivolz) are SO cool. Mandi and I have followed them both for a while, and have chatted with them online a whole bunch, and watched their amazing long-distance relationship create a new standard for love that other couples can never hope to achieve. They’re not just great Joker/Harley cosplayers, though. They both do stellar Drake and Zoe costumes as well, and Enasni is easily the most dedicated and polished Mad Moxxi to hit the internet.

                    4:

Donald and Tara Strand - Where can anyone begin with these two? They’ve been doing Joker and Harley longer than most, and definitely better than even more. They’ve been off the grid for a while, but considering they welcomed a little clown into the world, you can’t really blame them. Their variety of costumes is pretty awesome, too. I mean, just look at that Harley wedding dress! Plus, they’re awesome enough to hang with Paul Dini for Hallowe’en. Pretty hard to top that amount of awesome.

                    5:

That Joker Guy - This guy is pretty cool. If I’m being perfectly honest, I was wary when I first started seeing stuff from him around town (He’s a Toronto local like me). I was going through a phase at that time and I didn’t appreciate the Ledger Jokers as much as I do now, so the wariness came mainly out of that. But as I’ve learned to give up the rather misguided grudge of The Nolan-verse style, I’ve really grown to enjoy his contributions around the city to spread the Joker love. He’s an  amazing artist, and a really cool dude, who can be seen at just about any Toronto convention.

                    I uh…whoa….Thank you so much

Photo tutorial for my Gokstad Viking shield. The planks are 1/4”-thick pine, with two crossbeams and a handle, which are spruce, and are held in place with a combination of gunblue-treated steel nails and filed-down carriage bolts. I used Forest Green stain on the face; the beams got American Cherry. The boss was a stainless steel bowl, which I rounded out using a ball-peen hammer and blanketed stone as an anvil. The rim is bound in ‘boiled’ leather, which is actually treated in 180°F for 10-15 seconds, then secured with carpet tacks.

                      O.o  Saving this for later
